(Stewart, Ohio) Over the course of the long and storied history of the Skyline Speedway, there has arguably been no name more closely associated with the long popular facility than that of the Bond family. Members of the multi-generation racing family have been a fixture at the 3/8th mile oval in a number of capacities over the years from the driver seat, ticket booth to even track promoter over the years. The speedway which once operated under the name 'Bond's Speedway' while the Bond family helped lead the track through challenging times, is now proud to honor Ronnie Bond as the first of three legends to be honored at the inaugural "Throwback 30" special, set for May 5th 2017.
The 'Throwback 30" race is an event designed to shine light on some of the past stars of the Skyline Speedway, in a night that will truly turn back the clocks for all in attendance. With food specials, giveaways, and the rare opportunity to see the stars of today replace their typical door skins and decals with that of the honored drivers to compliment the throwback theme,
Ronnie Bond is the first of three past "legends" to be announced, and will see his popular #10 adorn the sides of a TBA current competitor and fans will have the opportunity to watch that ride do battle with many of the areas best in a $2,000 to win AMRA Late Model special, which will also serve as the fifth and final Jim Dunn Memorial Qualifier race, that is set to be held in mid-June at Midway Speedway.
Ronnie Bond, is the husband of the late Sarah Bond whom is memorialized annually with the popular Sarah Bond Memorial, which will take place later in 2017, Ronnie is also the father of longtime regional standouts Andy and Larry Bond. whom both will be competing throughout the night along with Larry's son Kyle Bond. whom is leading a successful Modified career of his own. The Bond's family presence has been felt at the track in so many ways for so long, and with that ind mind, the Skyline Speedway staff felt it was only right to ensure that Ronnie would be the first legend to be announced for what should be a special night.
The event will feature ALL regular classes competing, highlighted by the "Throwback 30", $2,000 to win AMRA Late Model special and qualifier for the Jim Dunn Memorial which is worth $500. Tentatively, the evening will also see AMRA Modifieds, AMRA Sport Mods and 4-Cylinders in action as fans will get their share of great racing throughout the evening!
More info on this event will be announced on Facebook or on skylinespeedwayoh.com as it becomes available! The Skyline Speedway staff looks forward to hosting this event and will soon be announcing a second legend before opening up a FAN VOTE for the 3rd legend in the coming weeks!
