Throughout the Ohio Valley region, there is arguably no other event or pastime that is such a staple within the region than that of dirt track racing. Starting this Friday night April 14th, the Skyline Speedway in Stewart Ohio looks to connect some of the area's younger demographic to the long popular and truly exciting sport, as the speedway hosts it's first $5 College Night of 2017.
The $5 College Night is Skyline Speedway promoter Steve Curtis and staff's effort to not only give students a cheap escape from their books, but also work to introduce the sport to a group who may not be as familiar with it, as those who've been in the region for much longer. With Skyline Speedway's close proximity to the Ohio University (10 minutes away) along with other schools such as Marietta College, Hocking Tech, West Virginia University at Parkersburg and others all within a reasonable driving distance, the track hopes to give students a unique glimpse into the sport at a fair price and at a peak time in the racing season.
Student's who attend this Friday's event will of course receive general admission for just $5. The track invites students from all across the region, as ANY VALID COLLEGE ID will be honored and accepted. The track hopes that as the sport begins to see a youth movement within it's higher ranks, that newer and younger fans will see the true excitement that the sport brings and the "cool factor" that it can entail. With younger drivers seeing great success on the track, such as Tyler Carpenter, the Dohm brothers and others such as Travis Dickson, Kyle Bond, the Evans brothers and more, it appears the sport is well set for a future in young rising stars, but the importance of a younger fan base remains as important as ever.
Promoter Steve Curtis intends for these events to grow the sport and ultimately make the Skyline Speedway and exciting place for fans of all ages. The track invites all college student out to this Friday's race and promises to run a quick, efficient and exciting show out of consideration for all in attendance. Gates open for Friday's race at 4 PM with Hot Laps set to begin at 7.
