Friends of Skyline Pick Favorites for Saturday's 35th Annual Harvest 50

October 10, 2018

With the 35th Annual Harvest 50 just days away, fan's are expected to see one of the most wide open "harvest" Late Model races in recent years, as the rescheduled World 100 is expected to create for a different cast of characters to steal a very big win!

While it's hard to tell who might just show up come Saturday night for the $3,000 to win - $300 to start Late Model show, one thing is for sure, and that is just how strong many of Skyline's weekly standouts have been all throughout the region in 2018! With that said, here are some picks for Saturday's special event, via some good friends and supporters of the Skyline Speedway!

Lee Gates: Slingin’ Dirt Productions

Pick to Win: Ronnie Mayle

“Ronnie struggled at times the last couple of seasons, and leading up to 2018. I am sure that weighed on him and breaking in a new chassis was not helping the stress, but he has had a tremendous year picking up gaining speed all year, with a few wins and several top 5’s along with a strong showing last week at Skyline”

- Dark Horse: Zach Milbee (Qualified into Saturday’s feature via Freedom 30 win, and finished 3rd in the 2017 running of the Harvest”

Jeff Hurst: Jeff Hurst Photography

Pick to Win: Andy Bond

“Andy Bond in the 53c has been on top of his game all year long, and certainly could be the one to watch out for. However, Ronnie Mayle has also been on fire and it could a great battle between two veterans!”

- Dark Horse: Chris Carpenter (Chris may not be a “dark horse” by some standards, but he has simply not raced much this year. Never the less, Chris has proven that he has not forgotten where victory lane is and how to get there)

Zach Yost: Zach Yost Racing Photography

Pick to Win: Andy Bond/Chris Carpenter (Zach wouldn’t pick a side)

“I think a couple favorites going into Saturday’s event would certainly be Chris Carpenter or Andy Bond. Both of those drivers have been front runners each time they’ve been to Skyline, and also have at least one feature win at the track this year, as well as plenty more wins over the years”

- Dark Horse Pick: Zach Milbee ("He may not have the dark horse power as others, but if the track is slick as it can be, that lack of horsepower will be an advantage and he can navigate around that slick surface as good as anyone")

Matt Chalfant: Skyline Speedway

Pick to Win: Chris Carpenter

“If Chris does in fact make the trip to Skyline, and if the track conditions are right, I can certainly see the 18 machine up front. Chris has plenty of laps at Skyline, and his smooth driver will be a huge help over 50 laps. With a couple wins and consistently up front each trip over (5th last week in a top notch Bond Memorial field)… I could see Saturday’s show play right into his wheel house”

- Dark Horse: Travis Brookover (Hard to ever call Travis a dark horse, but if he can make the trip Saturday, he’s a threat. Travis seems to always keep his car in 1 piece and seems to always be within striking distance at Skyline. Also Brandon Francis if we see the #113 machine)
